Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Odisha on September 27 and address a public meeting in Berhampur, according to state Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari. While the final schedule for the Prime Minister’s visit has not yet been confirmed, preparations are already well underway. This will be Modi's sixth visit to the state in the past 15 months, since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power.
"The Prime Minister has given his consent to visit Odisha on September 27. Our Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena has already started preparations for the visit, and I will be in Berhampur from September 15," Pujari said to the media.
Modi is expected to attend the BJP’s ‘Seva Pakshya’ programme, which is scheduled to begin on his birthday on September 17 and run until Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. His last visit to the state was on June 20 for the first anniversary of the BJP government in Odisha.
According to Pujari, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi invited the Prime Minister to visit Odisha on September 17 during his recent trip to Delhi, but a prior engagement made it impossible. The state government has since sent a tentative itinerary for September 27 to the Prime Minister's Office for final approval.
Pujari added that the BJP and the state government plan to plant 75 lakh saplings on September 17 to mark the Prime Minister's 75th birthday. During ‘Seva Pakshya’, state BJP members are also planning to organise blood donation camps, health checks, sanitation drives, and community assistance programmes.
