Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday, extending a formal invitation for the Prime Minister to visit Sikkim in November. The meeting focused on discussing various matters of historical, social, political, and cultural significance concerning the state.
In a social media post, Chief Minister Tamang expressed his gratitude, stating, "It was a great privilege to meet the PM and, on behalf of the people of Sikkim, conveyed heartfelt gratitude for his visionary leadership." He further added, "The PM's steadfast support has consistently inspired Sikkim’s efforts to build a vibrant and self-reliant state."
During the meeting, Chief Minister Tamang also congratulated Prime Minister Modi on the recent launch of GST 2.0, describing it as a transformative reform that would enhance ease of doing business, empower small and medium enterprises, promote cooperative federalism, and reduce the tax burden on citizens.
The Chief Minister recalled that Prime Minister Modi had earlier accepted an invitation to visit Sikkim during the Golden Jubilee of the state’s formation in May 2025. However, the visit was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. "Though the visit had to be cancelled, the PM's message of encouragement filled every Sikkimese heart with pride," said Tamang. He extended a fresh invitation for Prime Minister Modi to visit the state in November.

Prime Minister Modi had previously participated in the “Sikkim@50: Where Progress meets purpose and nature nurtures growth” programme. During that visit, he laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects in the state. However, due to inclement weather, the Prime Minister was unable to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations in person and participated virtually instead.
The upcoming November visit is anticipated to focus on furthering discussions on Sikkim's development priorities and strengthening the state's relationship with the central government.
