Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken for the first time about the Kancha Gachibowli land dispute in Hyderabad. During a rally in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, he criticised the Telangana Congress government.
Modi accused the state of destroying forests and harming wildlife. He said they use bulldozers on forest land while pretending to protect the environment. He also claimed the government had broken promises and misled the public.
The dispute involves 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli. The Telangana government says it is state-owned, not forest land. But students from the University of Hyderabad and opposition leaders say it is part of a protected forest area.

On 3 April, the Supreme Court ordered a halt to all work on the land. It directed the state to form an expert committee and submit a report within six months. The Chief Secretary must inspect the area and file a report by 16 April.
The court warned that failure to comply could lead to personal action against the Chief Secretary. The issue has sparked protests and gained national attention, especially after Modi's remarks.
The Supreme Court is slated to hear on April 16 a matter related to the felling of trees in the Kancha Gachibowli forest area near the University of Hyderabad, for which it had earlier asked the Telangana government to clarify the “compelling urgency” behind the clearing of a substantial green cover.
