Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit Assam on April 17, confirmed Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallah Baruah.

The Prime Minister will address a rally at the Bidanchal ground in Borkura, located in Assam's Nalbari district under the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency.

This marks PM Modi's first election address in Assam since the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election schedule.

Notably, this rally marks PM Modi's inaugural election address in Assam following the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Of particular significance is the allocation of the Barpeta constituency to the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) by the saffron party, BJP, for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The AGP, in alliance with the BJP in Assam, has nominated MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhary as its candidate representing the NDA.

Traditionally a Congress stronghold, the Barpeta constituency has seen victories by CPI-M and AIUDF in the past.

With a significant voter base comprising 19,49,873 registered voters, the outcome of this constituency holds substantial weight.

Adding to the political fervor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also scheduled to visit the state on April 7 and 8, where he will address three rallies.

His itinerary includes a visit to Gohpur on April 8, campaigning for BJP candidate Ranjit Dutta from the Sonitpur Lok Sabha seat in Assam.

As preparations intensify and the electoral battleground heats up, Assam's political landscape braces itself for a series of significant events.

The state, with its 13 Lok Sabha seats, is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of the upcoming elections, with aspirations to bolster PM Modi's bid for a third term as Prime Minister.

With voting across the 14 seats in Assam scheduled in three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7.
