Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate four upgraded railway stations in the state under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on July 17 at around 3 pm.
According to Dhillon, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment railway station in person. He will also virtually dedicate the upgraded railway stations at SAS Nagar (Mohali), Sri Muktsar Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib to the country.
Dhillon described the inauguration as a major step towards improving railway infrastructure in Punjab. He said the stations have been upgraded with modern facilities while preserving their local heritage and architectural style.
The upgrade includes improved platforms, spacious concourses, better waiting areas, lifts, escalators and enhanced facilities for passengers, making the stations more accessible and commuter-friendly.
He said the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is part of the Central government's plan to modernise railway stations across the country and improve connectivity, tourism and economic activity.
Dhillon also highlighted the Centre's infrastructure initiatives under Prime Minister Modi's leadership. He said significant investments have been made in highways, airports, metro systems, logistics corridors, ports and digital infrastructure over the past decade.
He added that the redevelopment of these four stations reflects the Centre’s focus on strengthening infrastructure in Punjab. According to him, the Centre remains committed to improving public facilities and supporting the state's overall development through continued investment in rail, road and other infrastructure projects.
