Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on his third visit to West Bengal this month, with a trip to northern West Bengal's Siliguri on Saturday.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate infrastructure projects worth over Rs 4,500 crore in Siliguri, the largest city in the region, followed by an address at a BJP rally.

Among the key projects to be unveiled are multiple railway line electrification initiatives aimed at benefiting the residents of northern West Bengal and its surrounding areas.

These projects include the Eklakhi-Balurghat section, Barsoi-Radhikapur section, Raninagar Jalpaiguri-Haldibari section, Siliguri-Aluabari section via Bagdogra, and the Siliguri–Sevok–Alipurduar Junction–Samuktala section.

Additionally, the doubling of the railway line in the Manigram-Nimtita section and automatic block signalling in the Ambari-Falakata-Aluabari section will be inaugurated.

The Prime Minister will also flag off a new passenger train service between Siliguri and Radhikapur.

These projects aim to enhance rail connectivity, facilitate freight movement, and foster employment generation and economic growth in the region, as per an official statement.

Furthermore, PM Modi will inaugurate two national highway projects worth Rs 3,100 crore in West Bengal, namely the four-lane Ghospukur-Dhupguri section and the four-lane Islampur Bypass on NH 27.

The Ghospukur-Dhupguri Section forms part of the north-south transport corridor, connecting eastern India with the rest of the country.

Following the government programme, the Prime Minister is slated to address a rally at Siliguri's Kawakhali Ground, as informed by a BJP leader.

The Prime Minister's earlier visits this month saw him traversing different districts of southern West Bengal, including Hooghly, Nadia, and North 24 Parganas, considered strongholds of the TMC.

The BJP's significant victory in north Bengal during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls underlines the importance of PM Modi's current visit to the region.

In preceding visits on March 1 and 2, PM Modi unveiled projects worth Rs 7,200 crore in Arambagh, Hooghly district, and projects worth Rs 15,000 crore in Krishnanagar, Nadia. On March 6, he inaugurated multiple metro railway projects in Kolkata.
