Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the landslide-affected Wayanad on Saturday to assess the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Kannaur at around 11 am, after which he will conduct an aerial survey of the areas in Wayanad district affected by the landslide.

Following the aerial survey, PM Modi is planned to conduct an on-ground inspection of the affected areas around 12:15 PM. He will also receive a briefing about the ongoing evacuation operation by the rescue teams.

PM Modi is also anticipated to visit a relief camp where more than 10,000 people are currently taking shelter.

After these activities, the Prime Minister will chair a review meeting to receive a comprehensive briefing on the incident and an update on the extensive relief efforts being coordinated in response to the crisis.

Earlier on Friday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for deciding to visit the landslide-affected Wayanad, which resulted in over 400 fatalities.

Taking to X, Rahul Gandhi stated, "Thank you, Modi ji, for visiting Wayanad to personally take stock of the terrible tragedy. This is a good decision. I am confident that once the Prime Minister sees the extent of the devastation firsthand, he will declare it a national disaster."

The Prime Minister's trip follows numerous requests from MPs in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, including Rahul Gandhi, for the government to designate the Wayanad landslides as a "national disaster." Such a designation would lead to the allocation of extra funds for relief and rehabilitation efforts, among other things.
