Poland has been chosen as the spotlight country for the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), scheduled to run from November 6 to 13, said an official.
The film festival will dedicate five distinct categories to showcasing the European nation's cinema. These will include a focus on contemporary Polish films, classic works by renowned Polish directors, and a special centenary tribute to the legendary director Wojciech Jerzy, who was born in 1925 and died in 2000. Additionally, the festival will screen animation films from Poland and feature films centred on Indo-Polish ties.
Films from other countries will also be screened under different competitive categories, with documentaries, short fiction, and films in Indian languages vying for awards at the annual festival. The total number of films to be screened at the KIFF, and the breakdown across categories, is expected to be officially announced soon. Last year, France held the position of spotlight country at the event.
