The second state conference of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) headed by party president and actor-politician Vijay was originally planned on August 25 in Madurai. But because of administrative and festival-related restrictions, the police have requested the party to choose a new date between August 18 and 22.

It will now be held on August 21 at Madurai, Vijay announced on Tuesday. Recalling his earlier announcement that the conference will be held on August 25 at Madurai, Vijay said police had advised the party to reschedule the meet.

On 17th July, TVK started arranging for the event by installing the pandal tent on the convention venue at Parapatti, Madurai district. On the very day, the party's General Secretary, N Anand, submitted a formal application seeking permission for the convention to the Superintendent of Police, Madurai district.

Meanwhile, TVK continued their preparations for the conference with the expectation of easy approvals. Police officers, however, expressed concerns regarding the proposed date since Vinayagar Chaturthi will be on August 27, and they urged the party to not stage the conference during that period because of security and crowd management issues.

Thereafter, TVK suggested the event to be conducted on August 17. But police also refused permission for that day on grounds of Independence Day-related security preparations and the requirement for increased alertness in the days surrounding August 15.

With these limitations in mind, the police officially instructed TVK to choose a new date between August 18 and 22 for the state conference, informing them that any date within this period would be easier from a law and order standpoint.

With this turn of events, party General Secretary initiated consultations to settle on an alternative date within the proposed period.

In the meantime, arrangements at the Parapatti venue are on, as TVK is keen on hosting a big convention and a successful one. The party leadership has even hoped that once a new date is finalised, the police would offer full cooperation so that the event goes on without any further obstacles.

This second state conference is likely to attract a large number of party members and supporters from all over Tamil Nadu, marking a big milestone in TVK's political career.

While talks are ongoing between the party and law and order authorities, an official communication of the new date will soon be made.
