The police have formed a nine-member special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the alleged rape of a woman by a student at the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta, officials said on Saturday. The SIT is headed by an assistant commissioner from the Southwest Division, they added.
The alleged incident occurred within the boys' hostel of IIM-Calcutta on Friday, a police officer had stated. The accused student was arrested on Saturday on the complaint of an FIR filed by the woman, he added. A court in the city has sent the student to police custody until July 19.
The primary focus of the investigation is to acquire digital and forensic evidence, the officials added. Forensic teams have already reached the scene and collected samples such as food remains and other substances for lab testing, they added.

Footage from CCTV cameras covering the whole campus has also been requested from the IIM authorities as part of the investigation, they added.
The woman's father, however, said that the incident reported did not happen.
I got a call from my daughter at around 9.40 pm on Friday. She informed me that she had fallen off a vehicle, lost consciousness, and was injured. Subsequently, I learned that she was taken to SSKM Hospital. None of the things that are being alleged by the police occurred, according to the information that I learned from my daughter," he had said on Saturday.
He also accused the police of forcing her to write the complaint. The State Women's Commission has also taken suo motu cognisance of the incident. Chairperson Leena Gangopadhyay stated that it is in contact with the police regarding visiting the woman and her family.
"We want the truth to emerge. If there is any social pressure or family pressure stopping her family from talking, that has to be overcome. We are keeping a close watch on the developments," Gangopadhyay stated.
