Police on Thursday removed former Jharkhand minister Yogendra Sao from the Keradari coal transportation route, following which coal movement on the stretch was resumed.
Coal transportation on the route had been disrupted after an illegal wall was erected on January 01, leading to a shutdown of operations from the morning of January 2.
According to officials, coal transportation remained suspended on January 1, during which a wall was constructed on the road, effectively blocking the route used for coal movement.
When authorities moved to demolish the illegally erected wall to restore transportation, former minister Yogendra Sao protested the action and staged a sit-in by placing a chair near the wall and sitting there himself. As a result, the demolition work was halted.
A complaint was subsequently lodged with the police regarding the obstruction of NTPC coal transportation by erecting the wall and the former minister’s opposition to its removal.
Police personnel reached the spot and initially tried to persuade Yogendra Sao to vacate the area voluntarily. However, when he refused to move, the police removed him from the site to clear the way for action.
After the former minister was removed, the illegal wall was cleared and coal transportation was resumed on the route. Sources said that coal extracted from NTPC mines is transported through this road by BRG company.
Officials also indicated that the incident is linked to a long-standing dispute between the company and former minister Yogendra Sao, as well as former MLA Amba Prasad.
The attempt to block coal transportation by constructing the wall is believed to be a fallout of this ongoing dispute.
