Police step up vigilance in Dehradun after recent crime incidents

Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth chaired a high-level meeting at the Police Headquarters following concerns over recent criminal incidents reported in Dehradun.

 

The meeting was attended by IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop, IG Special Task Force (STF) Nilesh Anand Bharne, SSP Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal, SSP STF Ajay Singh, along with other senior police officials.

 

During the meeting, the DGP assigned clear responsibilities to officers and directed the IG Garhwal to conduct daily monitoring of the law and order situation in Dehradun. The SSP Dehradun was asked to clearly allocate duties among subordinate officers and ensure accountability while maintaining effective policing.

 

The DGP instructed Circle Officers and Station House Officers to remain actively present in the field, increase police visibility in identified sensitive areas, and conduct strict checking at police barriers. Special focus was laid on strengthening police alertness during early morning hours.

 

He further directed the IG STF and SSP STF to launch a special drive against active criminal elements operating in Dehradun and to take strict action against those involved in unlawful activities.

 

Under an ongoing verification drive, officials were asked to carry out detailed verification of PG accommodations and tenants, along with regular monitoring of activities in homestays. Strict action has been ordered against bars and pubs operating beyond permitted timings.

 

The DGP emphasised that a focused operation should be carried out to control criminal activities in the state capital. He instructed all officers to remain alert, vigilant, and accountable to ensure public safety and security.

 

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan also chaired a meeting at the Secretariat with senior officials from the Home and Police Departments to review the overall law and order situation in Dehradun.

 

Expressing concern over rising incidents of road rage and hooliganism, he ordered officials to strengthen monitoring and take strict action against offenders. He also ordered increased police patrolling in Dehradun and nearby areas.

 

The SSP Dehradun was instructed to ensure that all station in-charges enhance patrolling during peak hours. Apart from day and night patrols, morning patrols are also to be intensified, according to an official release.

 

The Chief Secretary stressed strict enforcement of designated closing timings for bars and restaurants, the release stated. He said Dehradun should not turn into a hub for late-night parties and unruly weekend activities. Along with taking firm action against troublemakers, bar operators should be sensitised and made to strictly follow closing time regulations.
