On Monday, Kolkata Police brought Sanjay Roy, the accused in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, to Sealdah court.

To prevent journalists from hearing him, the police kept honking the vehicle's horn as Roy was escorted into the court building.

Roy had previously made remarks about former Kolkata police commissioner Vineet Goyal and insisted on his innocence when he was taken out of the prison van on November 11, the first day of the trial.

Monday marked the fifth day Roy appeared in court for the ongoing trial, which is being heard daily by Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das.

So far, nine witnesses have testified in the case, which is being investigated by the CBI following a Calcutta High Court order.

The victim, a doctor working at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was found dead in the facility's seminar room on August 9. The crime sparked nationwide outrage and led to prolonged protests by junior doctors in Kolkata, demanding justice for the victim.
