Voting is currently underway in Telangana for a series of contests to be held at 116 municipalities and seven corporations. The voting will now be a three-way battle between Congress, which is currently at the helm, Bharatiya Janata Party, and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The voting, which began at 7 am this morning, will continue until 5 pm this evening, during which over 52 lakh voters will be able to decide the fortunes of thousands of aspirants in the fray to occupy ward constituencies. The Telangana government has deployed 41,000 officials to conduct this massive exercise, who have placed thousands of ballot boxes to conduct the voting, which will be counted on February 13.
Following their success in the recent gram panchayat elections held in December, the Congress party is looking forward to consolidating their power further, while the BJP is engaged in an intense campaigning strategy to put themselves forward as the alternative reigning party.
On the other hand, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi is engaged in a fight to bring about a turnaround after suffering severe setbacks in the recently concluded assembly election and Lok Sabha elections held in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has been highly campaigning on the success of the welfare schemes implemented by the government, which include free bus travel for women and subsidised LPG.
