After rumours spread across Hyderabad via post claiming that the petrol would soon cost Rs 500 per litre, the citizens flooded the petrol pumps, outside which long queues were seen with people panicking.
The rumours of a halt in crude oil shipments from Arab nations—sparked by the ongoing Iran-US-Israel conflict—triggered widespread panic across India this week. Viral social media posts erroneously claimed that petrol pumps would soon shut down and prices would skyrocket to Rs 500 per litre. The whispers led to chaotic scenes at fuel stations, where large crowds of young people were filmed queuing with bikes and bottles to stockpile fuel.
Despite the viral footage, authorities have confirmed that these claims are entirely baseless.
The locals have expressed their concern over the unnecessary panic created by the fake news.
