President of India, Droupadi Murmu was given a rousing reception on her arrival at Shimla today.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu accorded a warm welcome to the President at Kalyani helipad at Charabra on the outskirts of Shimla.

Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, who has also been designated as the minister-in-waiting for the visit of the President, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Director General of Police, Dr Atul Verma, Principal Secretary, General Administration Devesh Kumar and other senior officers of the state government and Army were also present on the occasion.

During her visit, Murmu will stay at the Rashtrapati Niwas, the official summer residence of the President of India on the outskirts of Shimla.  The 173-old best-protected heritage building is named ‘The Retreat’.

The President will visit the Shimla catchment area on May 5. She will preside over the Convocation of the Central University, Dharamshala on May 6. On May 7, Murmu will offer prayers at Sankat Mochan and Tara Devi temples in Shimla, with a programme to visit the Mall Road, enjoy a cultural evening in the historic Gaiety Theatre and join the Raj Bhawan for dinner.
