President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Dehradun on Thursday for a three-day visit to Uttarakhand. She was received at the Jolly Grant Airport by Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, before heading directly to Rashtrapati Niketan.
On the first day of her visit, the President is scheduled to inaugurate an amphitheatre at Rashtrapati Niketan and lay the foundation stones for new staff quarters, stables, and barracks.
On Friday, which also marks her birthday, President Murmu will inaugurate a visitor facilitation centre, a cafeteria, and a souvenir shop at Rashtrapati Niketan. Later, she will attend a special programme for specially-abled children at the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities, accompanied by Union Minister for Social Justice Virendra Kumar, the Governor, the Chief Minister, and other dignitaries.
She will also dedicate Tapovan Park to the public, visit the Shiva temple on Rajpur Road, and lay the foundation stone for the Rashtrapati Udyan. A book on the biodiversity of Rashtrapati Niketan, Rashtrapati Tapovan, and Rashtrapati Park will be released during the visit.
Between 12:30 pm and 12:50 pm, she will receive birthday wishes at Rashtrapati Niketan. Later, she will release a commemorative postage stamp to mark the 125th anniversary of Raj Bhavan, Nainital, and attend the unveiling of a coffee table book on the historic estate.
On June 21, President Murmu will participate in International Yoga Day celebrations by performing yoga at a public event held at Police Lines in Dehradun. She is also scheduled to address the gathering on the occasion.
