President Droupadi Murmu is expected to visit Odisha towards the end of November, an occasion that would mark her first visit to the State Assembly since she assumed the presidency. This was disclosed by Law and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Monday, pending a formal schedule from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Minister Harichandan confirmed that the Odisha Government had put forward a proposal for the President to address the upcoming winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, and a tentative confirmation has been received.
“The details of the programme are being finalised. There is a possibility of it (President Murmu visiting Odisha). Additional information will be shared in due time,” he stated.
If confirmed, this visit would be President Murmu’s inaugural appearance at the Assembly as Head of State. Consequently, the Assembly Secretariat has initiated preparations, including revamping and redecorating the chamber traditionally used by the President, along with other areas of the building, for her arrival.
Before her presidency, Droupadi Murmu served as the Minister of Commerce and Transport and was the MLA for Rairangpur. Her potential return to the Assembly is thus viewed as an emotionally significant moment for the state.
Sources indicate that interior renovation work is underway to restore the chamber she used during her earlier tenure as a Minister. The visit would symbolically reconnect her with her early political career in Odisha, where she began her public service journey nearly two decades ago.
Although the final itinerary is yet to be issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, security agencies and local authorities have already commenced preparatory arrangements. Her last visit to Odisha took place in July 2025, when she attended the 5th convocation of AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the 13th convocation of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack.
