The state prison administration has introduced a series of special directives to ensure that no prisoner is excluded from the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. All correctional institutions have been instructed to assist the families of inmates in completing the forms, an essential part of the voter enumeration process.
The order, issued by ADG (Prison) Lakshminarayan Meena, has already been circulated across all 62 correctional homes in the state. According to sources, nearly 25,000 inmates are currently lodged in these facilities. Their arrival records, identity documents, and related details are being verified as part of the SIR procedure.
Several correctional institutions have begun receiving the forms directly from the families of inmates. Jail officials confirmed that welfare officers and designated staff members have been instructed to provide full cooperation during the process. Once the signatures and verification steps are completed, the filled forms will remain in the custody of the prison authorities for submission.
The ADG’s directive clearly states that if a prisoner's family member wishes to have the form signed, jail staff must facilitate the process without delay.
Under existing rules, relatives can meet inmates once a week. They may bring the enumeration form during these visits, submit it, or request the inmate’s signature. Jail authorities will then verify the document and ensure the prisoner signs it accordingly.
Officials say the primary objective of the initiative is to maintain transparency and accuracy in the voter list and to affirm the rights of every eligible prisoner. The move also aims to streamline documentation and eliminate discrepancies that often arise during large-scale surveys.
