Prohibitory orders have been enforced in Pakur district, Jharkhand, following violent incidents in West Bengal’s border areas, sparked by protests against the Waqf Board Amendment Act-2025.
The Pakur district administration has issued these restrictions for precautionary purposes. According to the order from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Pakur, special measures will be in place throughout the Pakur subdivision from April 18 to May 15.
During this period, gatherings of five or more people, unauthorized processions, meetings, or demonstrations will be strictly prohibited. Additionally, carrying traditional weapons like lathis, spears, or any lethal arms, as well as engaging in provocative behavior, will be banned.
The district administration clarified that essential events such as weddings, religious ceremonies, funeral processions, and exams are exempt from the restrictions.
In related news, Jharkhand Minister Hafizul Hasan has retracted his earlier statement about Shariat law being superior to the constitution after facing backlash from the State BJP. In a press release, the minister emphasized his respect for the constitution and clarified that his words were never intended to undermine it.
