Several workers at a refinery in Panipat, Haryana, on Monday clashed with security personnel during a protest over their pending demands. Some workers pelted stones and damaged vehicles while demonstrating at the site.

The incident occurred when workers were staging a protest to press for their demands, including fixed eight-hour duty shifts and basic facilities such as toilets and drinking water near the workplace.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed at the refinery asked the workers to continue their protest peacefully and stay within a designated area. Some workers objected to this and allegedly began pelting stones.

A few protesters, some carrying sticks, overturned one or two vehicles parked at the site and damaged them. As the situation turned tense, the police were called to the spot.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Panipat City) Rajbir Singh said the situation has now been brought under control. He said the workers were protesting over demands they had raised with their contractor.

Another police official said a force was rushed to the refinery as soon as information about the protest was received. “The situation is completely under control,” the police said.

Later, refinery officials held a meeting with representatives of the workers to discuss the issue. Panipat Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh also visited the site to review the situation, police added.
