Panjab University will remain closed on Wednesday after a sudden U-turn by the university authorities in response to protests by the Panjab University Bachao Morcha on the campus.
Earlier, the university had issued a notice declaring November 26 a teaching day with exams to continue as scheduled. However, the Morcha had announced a complete shutdown of the campus as a form of protest, demanding the release of the long-pending Senate election schedule.
Faced with escalating student protests and a bandh call, the university administration reversed its decision and declared a holiday on November 26 to avoid disruption and maintain peace on campus.
The protest follows intense agitations and a shutdown on November 10 in the midst of a standoff between students and the university authorities.
