A child in Puducherry has tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and is currently receiving treatment at the centrally administered Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER.
The Director of Health for Puducherry, V Ravichandran, stated in a release on Sunday that the girl child had presented symptoms of fever, cough, and a running nose.
She was admitted to JIPMER a few days ago and is under medical care.
"The child is recovering well, and all precautionary measures have been taken," Ravichandran said.
Puducherry had reported its first HMPV case involving a three-year-old child last week. The child was treated at a private hospital and discharged after a full recovery on January 11.
The Puducherry administration has intensified its efforts in response to the virus outbreak, the Director added.
