As part of their ongoing crackdown on drug-related crimes, Punjab Police, along with local authorities, demolished two illegal properties belonging to alleged drug smugglers in Khanpur village, Phillaur Tehsil, Jalandhar district.
Phillaur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarwan Singh stated that drug smugglers had illegally occupied land in two villages. One of the demolished properties belonged to Jasvir Sheera, a well-known drug smuggler from Khanpur village. The second belonged to a woman involved in drug supply in another village.
"Drug dealers have taken over land in two villages. Jasvir Sheera had built a house here, and we have demolished it. A woman drug peddler had also built an illegal house, and we are tearing it down as well. This sends a strong message—any property built with drug money will face action," DSP Singh said.
Ongoing crackdown on drug networks
This is not the first such action. On February 24, Punjab Police and local authorities demolished an illegal construction linked to a notorious drug smuggler, Sonu, from Talwandi village.
According to the Aam Aadmi Party, Sonu had been involved in drug-related crimes for three years and had multiple criminal cases against him. Police had already registered six FIRs against him. The authorities have vowed to continue dismantling drug networks to ensure public safety.

Government’s war on drugs
The Punjab government has announced a large-scale crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to launch aggressive operations across the state.
To support those struggling with addiction, the government has instructed district administrations to improve rehabilitation and de-addiction centers. These facilities will be equipped with essential medicines like Buprenorphine, testing kits, and trained staff. A senior IAS officer has been assigned to inspect these centers and ensure they are fully prepared.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling the drug menace and taking strict action against those profiting from illegal activities.
