Seeking strict action against those who were involved in the recent attacks on BJP offices in the state, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of encouraging political violence in the state. He strongly criticised the AAP, warning that the BJP would not allow “Bengal-like conditions under Mamata Banerjee” to emerge in Punjab.
Jakhar alleged that party offices in Ludhiana, Batala, Tarn Taran and Zirakpur were attacked on Monday as part of a “well-planned conspiracy”. He alleged that miscreants vandalised offices and threw ink at BJP leaders.
Jakhar, along with a delegation of party leaders, including Subhash Sharma, Parminder Singh Brar, Sanjeev Vashisht and Vineet Joshi, met the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police and demanded action against those involved in the incidents.
Targeting the AAP government again, Jakhar claimed the situation in Punjab was being turned similar to that in West Bengal before the announcement of Assembly election results.
Speaking to mediapersons in Mohali, he said the attacks on BJP offices in Ludhiana, Batala, Tarn Taran and Zirakpur appeared to be part of a planned conspiracy. He alleged that the offices were deliberately targeted and ink was thrown in a coordinated manner. He further said the incidents did not appear spontaneous and suggested that someone was directing the attacks from behind the scenes.
Demanding a thorough probe, Jakhar said the police investigation should identify those who allegedly planned the attacks and determine who issued the instructions. He said the truth must come out, whether the directions came from local AAP leaders or from the party leadership in Delhi, adding that those responsible should not escape punishment.
In Tarn Taran, around 10–12 unknown persons allegedly entered the BJP office on Monday, raised slogans against the party and threw ink inside the premises. In Ludhiana, tension was also reported after unidentified persons threw black ink at BJP leader Gurdev Sharma Debi.
