Amid the ongoing heatwave, the Punjab Government has revised school and office timings. The new schedule will be effective from May 25. According to the revised plan, schools and government offices will function from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the decision was taken due to rising temperatures across the state.
Meanwhile, weather took a sudden turn on Friday morning, bringing relief in several parts of Punjab. Rain was reported in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Pathankot, causing a drop in temperature. Strong winds were also seen along with the rain in Jalandhar and Pathankot.
However, intense heatwave conditions continue in Chandigarh. Weather data shows that Punjab recorded a slight drop of 0.9 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures on Thursday. Bathinda was the hottest place in the state, recording 44.6 degrees Celsius.
The Chandigarh Meteorological Centre said cloudy conditions are expected to develop over Chandigarh and Mohali in the next two to three hours. Rain along with strong winds of up to 40 kmph is also likely. The weather change may reduce the maximum temperature, which is expected to remain around 40 degrees Celsius.
