Davinderjit Singh, a 27-year-old US deportee who returned to his village, Landra in Phillaur, Punjab, has been missing since 5 am on Thursday, following his return to India the previous night.
Singh, one of the 104 deportees who arrived in Amritsar on Wednesday, was dropped off at his home by a revenue official around 10 pm.
According to his parents, Singh left home on his bike early on Thursday morning and has not returned since. The family grew concerned after hours passed without any word from him and subsequently alerted the Apra police.
Singh's mother, Balbir Kaur, said, "My son returned home last night and was perturbed. At 5 am, he left on his bike without informing us and is yet to return."
Singh's family revealed had initially left for Dubai two months ago, but later, they discovered that he had instead reached the United States.
Following his disappearance, the Naib tehsildar and local police visited the family’s residence to investigate the matter.
"It is perplexing as to why a youth who just returned home last night would leave so early in the morning again. He had been dropped at his house by the revenue official last night. The administration is deeply concerned and is searching for him", said Naib tehsildar Sunita Gillan.
