A large number of Punjab government employees and pensioners gathered at the Grain Market in Sector 39, Chandigarh, on Friday to press for their long-pending demands. During the protest, participants voiced strong criticism of the AAP-led state government.
As the protesters moved from the Grain Market towards the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, police tried to stop their march. Water cannons were used multiple times, and force was also employed to prevent the demonstrators from advancing.
Despite the police action, the protesters continued their march and remained steadfast. They raised slogans and reiterated their demands throughout the demonstration.
Representatives of the Punjab Mulazam and Pensioner Sanjha Front and the Sanjha Mulazam Munch claimed that the state government's approach towards employees and pensioners lacked clarity.
The leaders alleged that several promises made by the government to employees and pensioners had not been fulfilled. They said the rally was organised to highlight what they called the government's failure to deliver on its assurances.
Participants said the protest was more than just a demonstration. According to them, it reflected their determination to safeguard their rights, dignity and the interests of future generations.
