In a high-intensity encounter near the Ghaggar bridge on the Zirakpur-Ambala highway, the Mohali Police and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) successfully arrested notorious gangster Malkiyat Singh, alias Maxi, and his accomplice Sandeep.
The duo, brought from a Punjab jail on a production warrant, attempted to resist arrest, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
During the recovery operation, Maxi retrieved a concealed pistol and opened fire on the police. In retaliation, the Mohali Police and AGTF responded with controlled firing, injuring Maxi in the leg. He was immediately taken into custody and later shifted to Mohali Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
Maxi is a key member of the Goldy Brar and Goldy Dhillon gang, actively involved in an extortion racket across Punjab. In January 2025, the gang allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh in extortion from a property dealer in Mohali. Maxi already has multiple cases registered against him for extortion and illegal possession of firearms.

Following the encounter, the police recovered a .32 bore pistol from the accused. Mohali SSP Sandeep Garg arrived at the scene and confirmed that despite being in police custody, the gangsters had managed to conceal weapons. “They pulled out a hidden pistol and fired at the police, forcing us to retaliate. Maxi was injured in the leg, and both gangsters were arrested,” he stated.
Both suspects face multiple criminal charges, including extortion and illegal arms possession. The Mohali Police have intensified their crackdown on organised crime networks operating in the region, vowing to take strict action against gang-related activities.
