Amritpal Singh, a most-wanted gangster connected with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, has been arrested at the Moldova border following an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of Punjab Police in coordination with Central agencies, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

Amritpal Singh, also known as Amrit Dalam, is wanted in several serious criminal cases in Punjab and had been hiding abroad for a long time, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.

The DGP said the detention was made possible after sustained international coordination and continuous follow-up by Punjab Police and other agencies. He shared the update in a post on X.

Legal and diplomatic formalities have now begun to bring him back to India. Authorities are working on either his extradition or deportation so that he can face the law, the DGP said.

The Overseas Fugitive Tracking Cell of Punjab Police is at present tracking 61 fugitive gangsters who are believed to be hiding in different countries. "Amrit Dalam's detention marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to track and bring back offenders evading justice overseas," Yadav said.
