In a major initiative to combat drug abuse and secure a healthier future for the youth, Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Saturday launched a week-long ‘Victory Against Drug Abuse’ campaign.

The campaign, a collaborative effort involving government agencies, educational institutions, and community organisations, aims to address the growing threat of drug addiction among young people. It focuses on prevention, education, and rehabilitation to empower the youth to make informed choices and lead healthier lives, an official statement said.

The event was held at PM Shri Government School, Dhanas, where a 'Wish Tree' was installed on the campus. Governor Kataria posted a heartfelt message wishing for a drug-free Chandigarh on the ‘Wish Tree’, which is adorned with aspirations from students, teachers, and community leaders, symbolising a shared commitment to a healthier community.

Throughout the week, a series of activities — including slogan writing, poster-making competitions, tree adoption drives, and expert talks — will be organised to engage students and raise awareness.

Highlighting the collective responsibility in the fight against drugs, Kataria said, "The fight against drugs is not just the responsibility of the government but of every individual in our society. Let us unite to create a safer, drug-free environment for our youth."

Kataria also toured the school premises, appreciating a mural wall created by students under faculty guidance, and visited the integrated room dedicated to the education of children with special needs.

Reiterating the campaign’s slogan ‘Nashe se dur, jiyo bharpoor’ (stay away from drugs, live life to the fullest), the Governor called upon citizens to actively participate and help realise the vision of a drug-free Chandigarh.
