Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria led a Jan Yatra against drugs in Kharar on Thursday, an awareness march organized by the Shri Ram Mandir Ajj Sarovar Vikas Samiti.
Addressing the gathering, Kataria reaffirmed that Punjab has no place for drugs and called on society to support the state government’s efforts to eradicate the menace. He emphasised the need to protect Punjab’s rich heritage and urged collective action to safeguard the future generations from the threat of substance abuse.
Flagging off the march from Shri Ram Bhawan, the governor spoke about Punjab’s glorious history of valor and sacrifice.
He recalled the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, and highlighted the importance of resisting external forces that seek to weaken the Punjabi community.

He stressed that the fight against drugs should become a mass movement, with every citizen contributing to the cause.
Kataria also acknowledged Punjab’s historic role in securing India’s food reserves and called upon the people to rise to the occasion once again by taking an active stand against drug abuse.
He noted that the Punjab government’s War Against Drugs campaign is showing positive results and emphasized that the state has implemented the strictest penalties under the NDPS Act to strengthen the legal framework against drug peddling.
The awareness march witnessed participation from students as well as representatives from various religious and social organisations.
Later, a felicitation ceremony was held at Shri Ram Bhawan, where the Shri Ram Mandir Ajj Sarovar Vikas Samiti honored the governor. Expressing his gratitude, Kataria thanked the mandir committee for the opportunity to visit Ajj Sarovar and commended its efforts in preserving the sacred site.
