Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly and senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging that it has failed to deliver justice in the 2015 sacrilege and police firing cases despite making strong promises before coming to power.
Speaking in Chandigarh, Bajwa questioned the AAP government’s progress in the investigations related to the Bargari sacrilege case and the police firing incidents at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura.
He said before the formation of the government, AAP leaders had strongly backed the current Chief Minister and assured people that justice would be delivered in the sensitive cases.
Bajwa also targeted the ruling party over the role of former IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who joined AAP before the Assembly elections. He said Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had resigned from the police service while serving as an Inspector General and was projected as a key face of the party.
According to Bajwa, AAP leaders had promised that Singh would play an important role in ensuring justice in the sacrilege and firing cases.
The Congress leader claimed that the party had assured people that the cases would be resolved quickly once it came to power and had spoken of delivering justice within a very short period.
Expressing disappointment, Bajwa said that even after four and a half years, the victims and their families are still waiting for justice. He further said that many cases linked to the Bargari sacrilege, Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura incidents have now been shifted from Punjab to courts outside the state. According to him, the issue will be raised by the Congress in the Assembly.
