Pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh's written request seeking 'temporary bail' to take oath has been forwarded to the Lok Sabha Assembly speaker, Om Birla by the Punjab ruling AAP government. Singh, currently, is detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in Dibrugarh jail, Assam.

He recently won from the Khadoor parliamentary constituency with a record margin as an independent candidate.

Singh's lawyer, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, speaking on the matter, cited, "The Punjab home secretary has told us that he has forwarded the letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker. Once received, the Speaker can decide about the oath-taking within 60 days that starting from June 25. According to the procedure, the Speaker takes the advice of the home department before taking a decision."

Amritpal’s legal adviser, Imaan Singh Khara, informed on Tuesday that the plea by the radical Sikh leader was submitted to the Punjab government via the jail superintendent under Section 15 of the NSA on June 9.

What comes under Sec 15 of NSA?

It states, "The appropriate Government may, at any time, direct that any person detained in pursuance of a detention order may be released for any specified period either without conditions or upon such conditions specified in the direction as that person accepts, and may, at any time, cancel his release."
