Launching a blistering attack on the Punjab government, the state Congress on Wednesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of misusing State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) funds to the tune of Rs 12,000 crore.
Demanding accountability from the state government on the current status of the SDRF, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring claimed that the government had diverted the funds elsewhere. He said a criminal case should be registered against the government for misappropriating these funds.
Warring said the Rs 12,000-crore SDRF funds accumulated over the years should have been available with the state government for ready use. Accusing the Central and state governments of misleading the people of Punjab, he said, “Not only have the funds been usurped, reckless and deep mining in the rivers has also changed their natural course, resulting in flooding across several acres.”
Warring also demanded a judicial inquiry to fix responsibility for holding back waters in the dams and then suddenly releasing it despite forecasts of heavy rain.
