The Punjab government on Tuesday launched a unified portal called the ‘Fast Track Punjab Portal’, with an aim to accelerate industrial and institutional approvals and ensure ease of doing business in the state, said government officials.
The digital initiative was announced at a programme at Mohali’s Amity University by Punjab’s Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief, Arvind Kejriwal.
According to official information, the portal (www.fasttrack.punjab.gov.in) is designed to provide a seamless, transparent and accountable system by fast-tracking all approvals, particularly to investors and business establishments, within a maximum time period of 45 working days under a special “deemed approval” mechanism.
If a decision is not made within the stipulated time frame, said officials, the portal will then automatically issue a legally valid approval the next day.
Additionally, under the Punjab Right to Business Act, the portal will help grant in-principle approval for eligible projects within the industrial parks in just three working days, and for projects outside these parks, in 15 working days. The projects covered under it include those from the manufacturing, IT (Information Technology) and hospital sectors among others.
Officials also say the Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion will act as a unified regulatory authority to bring together multiple departments under one roof so as to speed-up decision-making and cut through bureaucratic red-tape.
Promising a “single-entry, single-text clearance” process, the portal would offer a streamlined investor engagement in Punjab. The launch has been hailed by industry leaders in the state and outside who had been lamenting about procedural delays and official high-handedness when it came to seeking approvals.
Also present at the launch were Punjab cabinet ministers Harpal Cheema, Tarunpreet Sond, Hardeep Singh Mundian and Dr. Ravjot Singh.
