After witnessing erratic weather conditions on April 19, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to experience heatwave conditions from Tuesday until Thursday, weather monitoring officials have warned.
On Sunday, light rainfall with thunderstorms occurred at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana, while the maximum temperature in both states remained relatively high compared to the seasonal norm.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the rainfall has been significantly in surplus in the month of April.
It said the rainfall in Punjab in April remained 29 per cent higher than the seasonal normal. The state received 26.2 mm of rain, which is in excess of 134 per cent, while from March 1 onwards, the figures are 43.5 mm against the normal of 33.7 mm.
The highest temperature across the states was recorded in Bathinda at 41.1 degrees Celsius, while the lowest minimum temperature was 18.4 degrees Celsius at Adampur, IMD data revealed.
These are 4.5 and 2.7 degrees above the seasonal normal usually recorded during this time of the season.
The weather in Punjab is likely to be dry from April 20-26, with a gradual rise in maximum temperature by 2-4 degrees.
The weather authorities have issued advisories over the possibility of warm nights and even hotter days at most places on April 21, 22 and 23.
