Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are scorching with heatwave conditions, though the states might face low to moderate rainfall from June 18 to 21.

The dry weather and sweltering heat will continue for the next 48 hours in Chandigarh and Haryana, and 24 hours in Punjab.

Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh while the northern parts of the states and UT are likely to face temperatures between 44 to 46 degrees.

Meanwhile, the heatwave sweeping Haryana and Punjab continued unabated on Sunday, with Samrala and Nuh reeling at 47.2 degrees and 46.6 degrees Celsius.

The sweltering heat also battered Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, as it recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, the Met office said.

While the scorching heat swept Samrala in Punjab's Ludhiana, Nuh was the hottest place in Haryana.

Among other places in Haryana, intense heatwave conditions prevailed in Faridabad and Sirsa, recording maximum temperatures of 46.4 degrees and 46.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Mahendragarh recorded a high of 45.6 degrees Celsius while Hisar sweltered at 45.2 degrees.
