Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced on late Saturday evening said that three cases have been registered against illegal sand mining operators in Rupnagar district.

He instructed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rupnagar to take strict action against those involved in illegal mining.

Bains stated that two cases were registered at Nangal police station and one at Kalwan Chowki under sections 21 (1) and 4 (1) of the Mines and Minerals Development Rules, 1957.

To tackle the issue, Bains issued several strict orders to the DC. He directed that high-resolution night vision CCTV cameras should be installed within 15 days on all key routes used for transporting mining materials. He also asked authorities to identify areas commonly used for illegal mining.

Additionally, he ordered thorough inspections of all crushers in the district to check their records for any illegal activities.

Bains emphasised that district officials must be held accountable and warned against any negligence or cooperation with illegal miners, regardless of their political connections. He made it clear that no one will be spared, no matter their political influence or status. Anyone involved in illegal mining will face strict punishment, as it is a serious crime.

To strengthen the fight against illegal mining, he instructed district authorities to involve youth clubs in identifying and reporting such activities. Bains stressed that illegal mining harms Punjab's environment and economy. He warned that no one will be allowed to exploit the land for personal profit.

Strict action will be taken against violators, and enforcement operations will be carried out transparently. He urged young people and responsible citizens to join efforts in protecting Punjab’s natural resources.
