The Punjab government has released Rs 314.22 crore to support the education, safety and future of orphaned and dependent children in the state, an official statement said on Friday.
The financial assistance is expected to benefit over 2.37 lakh children across Punjab, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur said.
The minister said the state government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, remains committed to child welfare and wants to ensure that no child is forced to abandon education or aspirations due to poverty, neglect or hardship.
She said children below the age of 21 are eligible for the scheme if both parents are deceased, missing, or physically or mentally unable to support the family.
The minister added that the initiative underlines the government’s strong resolve to provide a safe, dignified and secure future for every child in Punjab.
