After coming under scrutiny in high-profile cases involving Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, the Punjab Police is once again in the spotlight—this time over its handling of serious allegations against Jashan Gill, a self-styled pastor based in Gurdaspur.
A grieving father has come forward, accusing the pastor of repeatedly raping his 22-year-old daughter, a BCA student at the time, impregnating her, and later forcing her to undergo an unsafe abortion that ultimately led to her death.
According to the father, the family used to attend a church in Abul Khair village in Gurdaspur district, where Pastor Jashan allegedly manipulated and exploited his daughter under the guise of spiritual guidance. The man claims that after impregnating her, the pastor arranged for an abortion to be carried out by an unqualified nurse in Khokhar village.
He further alleged that the procedure was performed negligently, resulting in severe complications. His daughter soon began complaining of stomach pain, was admitted to a local hospital, and after undergoing an ultrasound, it was discovered she had undergone an abortion.
Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she was transferred to a hospital in Amritsar where she later died during treatment. The father expressed deep frustration over the lack of action by the local police, claiming that despite filing a complaint in 2023, Jashan Gill has not been arrested and continues to live freely.

He accused the pastor of bribing local law enforcement officials to avoid arrest and said his repeated pleas for justice had gone unheard.
In a desperate bid for accountability, the man has now demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing a complete failure by the Punjab Police to take meaningful action in the case.
Fearing for his own safety, the father also revealed that he had received threats and was forced to leave his village. He has since approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking judicial intervention and a CBI inquiry into his daughter’s death.
He emphasised that all he wants is justice for his daughter, whose life was cut short due to alleged exploitation, negligence, and systemic apathy. The case has surfaced just days after a Mohali court sentenced another controversial pastor, Bajinder Singh, to life imprisonment in connection with a 2018 sexual harassment case.
In that case, the Punjab Police had registered an FIR following a woman's complaint that she was sexually assaulted after a prayer session. The woman also alleged that she and others were mistreated and physically assaulted.
The growing number of allegations against self-styled pastors and the perceived inaction by local authorities have raised serious concerns about law enforcement and justice delivery in such sensitive cases in Punjab.
