Punjab Police have arrested Amritpal Singh Mehron, a key accused in the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, aka Kamal Bhabi, said officials on Friday. Mehron, who was taken into custody in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was safely flown back to Punjab by the state Police.
In a post on X, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said Mehron was brought back by the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC), which comes under the Counter-Intelligence Wing of the Punjab Police, and central agencies.
He added that “Punjab Police maintain a zero-tolerance policy against organised crime and anti-national elements and remain steadfast in ensuring a safe and secure Punjab."
Kumari, a 30-year-old social media influencer famous for her Instagram name ‘Kamal Kaur Bhabi’, was killed by Mehron on June 9, 2025. Her body was recovered by the officials from an abandoned car at a parking lot in Bathinda, they said, adding that she had died from strangulation.
Shortly after, police began investigating the crime and arrested two accused, Jaspreet Singh of Moga and Nimratjit Singh of Tarn Taran, but Mehron — a 30-year-old Moga resident who is a self-styled Sikh radical leader — fled to the UAE.
Mehron was arrested in Dubai in January this year. During the investigation, both Jaspreet and Nimratjit told police that Kumari was killed for uploading “immoral and vulgar content that hurt the (Sikh) community’s sentiments”.
The accused had confessed in a public video showing Mehron claiming that the two arrested persons had killed Kumari for her “immoral and vulgar content”.
“Punjab Police, in close coordination with central agencies, traced his location to the Middle East and initiated extradition proceedings. He was subsequently detained and deported to India, where he was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, in the early hours of April 10, 2026,” Yadav said.
