In a significant drug seizure, two individuals, including a woman, were arrested, said the Punjab Police on Thursday. Simran Kaur, 38, and Gurjot Singh, 28, both residents of Moga, were apprehended on Wednesday evening in connection with the seizure of over six kilograms of heroin and £4,500 in cash.
The pair were caught with the contraband concealed in their vehicle at a checkpoint on Old Mudki Road. Simran Kaur, who has a history of 15 criminal cases related to drug offences and prison breaches, was among those arrested.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav revealed that the Ferozepur Police had received intelligence about a drone-delivered drug consignment from across the border, leading to the interception.
The investigation is ongoing, with Senior Superintendent of Police Saumya Mishra stating that efforts are being made to establish connections and identify the Pakistan-based drug smuggler and intended recipients of the drug consignment.
Additionally, police will initiate proceedings to confiscate the illegally acquired assets of the arrested smugglers under the NDPS Act. The successful operation and seizure are a significant blow to drug smuggling activities in the region.
