The Punjab Police said it uncovered a drug smuggling racket with the arrest of two persons who were allegedly in touch with a Pakistan-based drug dealer and smuggler.
A top police officer said on Saturday that there were recoveries made in the cross-border drug busting operation that included heroin weighing 6.15 kg, a .30 bore pistol with four cartridges, and cash worth ₹10,000 which was in the possession of the two arrested.
The Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, shared the information with the press on social platform X.
In his post, Yadav said the accused have been identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Love and Balwinder Singh alias Bobby.
“Preliminary investigation reveals the accused were in direct contact with a #Pakistan-based smuggler via #WhatsApp, indicating a strong cross-border nexus,” the DGP said.
An FIR has been registered in the matter at the Lopoke police station in Amritsar and further investigations are underway to trace forward and backward linkages, Yadav added.
