Punjab Police arrested Pappalpreet Singh, a close associate of the jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, from Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam on Wednesday after his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) ended.
Pappalpreet, who had been held under the NSA, is now being transported back to Amritsar under tight security. With his arrest, only Amritpal Singh remains in Dibrugarh Jail, where his detention is scheduled to end on April 23.
Following his release from Dibrugarh, Pappalpreet Singh was immediately arrested in connection with the Ajnala police station attack case. Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh confirmed the arrest, stating that Pappalpreet is expected to arrive in Amritsar by late evening. He will be presented before the Ajnala sub-divisional court on Thursday.
Amritpal Singh, the leader of 'Waris Punjab De,' along with nine of his associates, has been detained in Dibrugarh Jail under the NSA since 2023. Prior to this, several of Amritpal’s associates, including Varinder Singh alias Fauji, Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, Gurmeet Singh Gill alias Gurmeet Bukkanwala, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal alias Kulwant Singh, Gurinderpal Singh Aujla alias Guri Aujla, Harjeet Singh alias Chacha, and Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi alias Daljeet Singh Kalsi, had already been brought back to Punjab.
