A meeting between farmer leaders and the Punjab police resulted in the administration agreeing to release Jagjit Singh Dallewal. Despite this, the farmers’ protest and Dallewal’s indefinite fast will continue until all their demands are met.
Farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher stated that while they have not directly communicated with Dallewal, they have been assured of his good health.
Pandher confirmed that the Punjab government has agreed to release Dallewal, who will rejoin the farmers at the Khanauri border and resume his "fast unto death" as part of the ongoing farmers' agitation.
Earlier, on Thursday, farmers announced plans to protest outside Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence in Sangrur on December 1 to oppose Dallewal's arrest.
However, with the government now agreeing to his release, the final decision about the December 1 protest will be taken later.
Farmer leaders emphasised that the farmers' agitation will continue with a firm resolve. They have implemented a "death fast" strategy, declaring that if any leader loses their life during the protest, another will take their place.
They have given the Punjab government a 10-day deadline to address their demands. If no action is taken, farmers plan to march to Delhi on December 6 to escalate their protest.
The ongoing agitation highlights key issues such as Dallewal’s arrest, the farmers' unity at the Khanauri border, and their unwavering stance against the Punjab government and police.
