Dedicated to the ninth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Tegh Bahadur, on his 350th martyrdom anniversary, the tableau set up by the Punjab government for the Republic Day parade is a unique blend of spirituality and the selfless spirit of sacrifice to uphold the ideals of humanity and compassion.
An official spokesperson said the tableau includes two portions, tractor and trailer. The tractor portion of the tableau comprises a symbol of hand exuding a spiritual aura signifying a humanitarian and compassionate approach, the celestial “Ek Onkar” (God is One) depicted in a revolving manner in front and a piece of cloth with “Hind di Chadar” embossed on it symbolising protection for those seeking shelter from oppression.
The trailer part incorporates the ‘shabad kirtan’ being held by Raagi Singhs with a monument of "Khanda Sahib" in the background lending a transcendental hue to the surroundings. This is placed right in front of Gurdwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib in Delhi. The ‘shabad kirtan’ at this chowk is a daily ritual. At the edge of the trailer portion is the depiction of Gurdwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib, the place where Guru Tegh Bahadur was martyred.
The side panels showcase the martyrdom of the Guru’s devout Sikhs, Bhai Mati Dass who was sawed alive, Bhai Sati Dass Ji who was tied in cotton which was set on fire and Bhai Dyala Ji who was boiled alive in a cauldron. They were the devoted companions of Guru Tegh Bahadur, and following the lofty ideals of Guru Sahib, they also chose to embrace martyrdom in the highest traditions of humanity, said the spokesperson.
