The Punjab government has tied up with United India Insurance Company to roll out its flagship Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, under which families across the state will receive cashless health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per annum.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the scheme will be officially launched on January 15 by Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal and chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The health minister said the scheme aims to ensure universal access to healthcare and protect Punjab residents from high medical expenses. He said the government has completed the process of finalising the insurer and is in the final stages of empanelling government and private hospitals across the state to provide cashless treatment.
Dr Balbir Singh said the Punjab government has set a target to enrol all eligible residents within three-four months of the scheme’s launch. To achieve this, the government will organise around 9,000 enrolment camps across Punjab.
“The objective of the government is to ensure that no family in Punjab is denied medical treatment due to financial constraints,” the health minister said, adding that the scheme will provide a major boost to public health infrastructure in the state. According to the health minister, eligibility under the scheme has been kept simple to ensure maximum participation.
