Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that the state government’s ambitious health card scheme will be rolled out on Tuesday in Tarn Taran and Barnala districts, where 128 registration camps each will be set up.
The registration process will be completed in 10–15 days in the two districts, after which the scheme will be extended across the state. Every family will receive a health card with cashless treatment cover of up to ₹10 lakh annually. Residents will be required to carry their Aadhaar card and voter ID card for registration.
Both government and private hospitals will be empanelled under the scheme, which will cover major surgeries and treatments at no cost to beneficiaries. The chief minister said Punjab would be the first state where every family is entitled to cashless treatment facilities. Around 500 private hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme, which will cover 2,000 ailments.
Mann said the government would soon scale up its flagship Aam Aadmi Clinics to 1,000 with complete availability of medicines, which was earlier restricted to 30 per cent.
Commenting on the Central government’s GST rate cut, the CM said, “Earlier, they themselves imposed GST and caused inflation, now they are rolling it back.”
Speaking about Mastuana Medical College in Sangrur, Mann said that despite all the hurdles created by the SGPC, the medical college would surely be set up in Sangrur.
