In a bid to reduce its dependency on fossil fuels, Punjab's Aam Aadmi Party government is planning to put up 66 solar power plants each with a capacity of 4 MW. The announcement was made on Monday by the Punjab New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora.
The solar plants will approximately generate 400 Million Units (MU) of electricity, yearly.
A contract regarding the same has also been awarded by the state government to V.P. Solar Generations Pvt. Ltd.. The contract was formalised via the handing over of a Letter of Award (LoA) by Punjab’s New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister.
The clean energy plant is likely to be completed by the end of December, next year, said the minister.
This project is expected to attract investments of approximately ₹1,056 crore to the state, creating job opportunities for both skilled as well as semi-skilled workers in the non-conventional energy sector, the minister then added.
